ZAZ – La Pluie (The Rain) French & English Lyrics
J’adore cette chanson ❤️
I discovered ZAZ several years ago by lucky accident. She is one of my favorite musicians in the entire world. I am somewhat of a language aficionado. In addition to programming languages I have taught myself, and having learned to speak some Bodewadmi in recent years, I also took 4 years of Spanish in high school and can read and understand quite a bit of it, even though I hesitate to speak it out loud.
French is also a romance language, rooted in Latin, so many of the word roots are the same or very similar to Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Romanian.
In other words, if you speak one of these Romance languages, or if you speak Latin, there is a good chance you can understand a fair number of words in any of the Romance languages. Whatever I don’t understand, google fills in the gaps for me.
Today I’m obsessing over music, and have been listening to ZAZ for hours. (I either got my roommate hooked on her too, or I’m driving him completely nuts in the other room. LOL) I have listened to this song at least a dozen times today. I can only sing like 1/3 of it right now. Even when my brain knows the words, they can be tongue twisters to sing quickly.
You don’t need to speak french to love her, she is amazing. <3

And here it is in Spanish, so you can see the similarity between the two languages:
Y cae, y cae, y cae, cae
Hace calor
Y cae, y cae, y cae …

The sky is gray, the rain comes, on her own, as a surprise
She’s with us, a ritual with which we are stuck
Umbrellas open like the rhythm of a dance
Drops fall in abundance above sweet France
Falling, falling, falling, … the rain
And this Sunday in December
In the shadow of their umbrellas
Those passing by rushing, rushing, rushing without waiting
We like her, sometimes she raises her voice and shakes us
When she’s done, there is no more than the dog-days
Then she returns as one with a need for affection
And she sings us her grand song, an inundation.
Falling down, falling, falling, the rain
On this Sunday in December
In the shadow of their umbrellas
Those passing by rushing, rushing, rushing without waiting
Falling, falling, falling the rain
On this Sunday in December
In the shadow of their umbrellas
Those passing by rushing, rushing, rushing without waiting
And falling, and falling, and falling, falling
And falling…and falling…and falling..
